Use benchmark fractions and number sense of fractions to estimate mentally and assess the reasonableness of answers. For example, recognize an incorrect result 2/5 + 1/2 = 3/7, by observing that 3/7< 1/2.

Hello again. I hope all of you are well. Last week’s lesson took us into the concept of day and night. We looked at how the Earth’srotation creates patterns that we witness daily. This week, we will continue with that same concept, but focus on shadows.

Essential question: How does the Earth’s rotation create shadows, and why do those shadows change throughout the day?

Why can we not see shadows at night?

The video link below will help you understand this by giving you explanations, examples, and practice activities.

Material Needed:
White paper
Flash Light/small light
small toy (not glass or see-through)
a clear glass
mirror
pencil to record data
